A couple days ago, I had the pleasure of reading an article at CSS-Geeks.com, titled “Can CSS be Better?” In it, author Mike Cerny gave some extremely thorough and well-researched answers to the question, “Can CSS be better?” I was struck by how much the author took away from what he’d learned.
For me it was his suggestion to always give HTML a try: You can’t have a lot of HTML without worrying about a lot of CSS. But you can’t have that CSS if you’re trying to write good HTML. And you can’t have good HTML if you’re trying to write good CSS.
I’ve seen some of these posts in the CSSGeeks.com archives, with some of these suggestions in them. Some of them have been up to date with the version that’s been available on the website. I know there’s been some issues, but the most recent ones were very good.
The post from CSSGeeks is a case in point: A few years ago, a lot of css guys said they were going to make their own website, and they would include more of the HTML stuff. They made it and included a lot of CSS, but they didn’t include much of the HTML. There was a big discussion at the CSSGeeks website about this, and there were many of the commenters talking about how bad the HTML was coming across.
In CSSGeeks’s case, the issue is that they included some of it on their website, but not most of it. There was a lot that they would have included if they were going to do it themselves, but because they were not doing it themselves, they were not able to include it, and so it was hard for them to show their progress, or to compare it to other websites. It also shows that they were not very good at keeping the HTML up to date.
If you want to help keep a website up to date, you sure as hell don’t want to include things that should be in the master CSS file.
I have no idea how cssgb keeps it up to date. I know that they have CSS files, but they are not up to date on the HTML, or at least I haven’t been able to find them.
The CSS and HTML files are located in the cssgb-www-static folder on their website. What they are doing here is actually more like keeping the project up to date than keeping their website up to date. They keep all the CSS and HTML files that they have on their website on their server and then host them on their own website.
cssgb is a project that makes use of the HTML5 local storage feature and allows you to store web pages on your own server without the need to upload the entire file over the web. This is pretty cool because it allows you to store webpages on your server that you can access through your web browser without the need to download the full web page to your computer. The downside is that while you can view pages on your server, you can only view the pages that the server is hosting.
cssgb is a neat idea for an easy solution to the problem of storing webpages on your own server. I’m sure that it will be useful for other websites too. It’s also a neat idea because it doesn’t require a full web page upload. It would be nice if it were possible to store pages on your own server that you can access through your web browser without the need to download the entire web page to your computer.
